Roy Grandy
Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, I have lived in Ontario most of my life and have been sketching and painting here since the mid-1960’s. I enjoy varied media including watercolour, acrylic and oil, each one having its own contribution to the final statement. Although much of my painting and drawing is based directly on observation of the landscape, I also enjoy a more ‘interpretive’ approach especially in larger works.
Primarily self-taught, I have have also studied watercolour, drawing and life drawing at Sheridan College. I spent many days sketching and painting in southern Ontario and the Bruce Peninsula with the late Winchell Price, whose iconic style and approach to painting left a lasting effect (Visit https://www.winchellprice.com/ )
Currently based in Quinte West, I am exploring the rural areas of Hastings and the Northumberland Hills, as well as Prince Edward County. I also draw much of my inspiration from the Georgian Bay and Killarney areas of Ontario. I continue to evolve from direct interpretation of nature to a more simplified and impactful expression while keeping the original emotional response intact, above all maintaining creative honesty throughout.
